Frequently Asked Questions
What is Depth Hypnosis?
Depth Hypnosis is a spiritual counseling model created by Dr. Isa Gucciardi. It draws on shamanism, Buddhist psychology, hypnotherapy, and transpersonal psychology to help you understand what you need in order to heal. Rather than working on the surface, it addresses the root of an issue, treating symptoms as teachers that point the way back to balance. The work rests on self-knowledge and self-responsibility: healing begins within. Learn more at depthhypnosis.org.
How does Depth Hypnosis differ from traditional hypnotherapy?
Traditional hypnotherapy works mainly through suggestion: while you're relaxed, a script offers your subconscious a new pattern. This can be helpful, and I offer it as a standalone session. In Depth Hypnosis, we follow what you're experiencing to its underlying cause and work with it there, so the shift can take root at a deeper level. You're an active participant throughout, and the work engages every level of your being: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
How does Depth Hypnosis differ from traditional hypnotherapy?
Traditional hypnotherapy relies mostly on suggestion: offering the subconscious new patterns while you're deeply relaxed. That can be helpful, but when the underlying cause isn't addressed, an issue may return or show up in another form. Depth Hypnosis goes to the root. In the altered state, we follow a sensation or emotion to where it began and work with it there, often with the support of your own inner guidance. You're an active participant throughout, discovering what you need in order to heal.
What is Applied Shamanism?
Applied Shamanism adapts the core practices shared across shamanic cultures for a modern healing context, honoring each tradition without borrowing from any one. Applied Shamanic Counseling is the client-led form of this work. Over at least five sessions, you build a working relationship with your own inner guidance. Learn more at appliedshamanism.org.
What is Integrated Energy Medicine?
Integrated Energy Medicine works with the body's subtle energy system to clear, nourish, and restore life force. Developed through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, it is the engine of Depth Hypnosis and is woven into every session I offer. It can also stand on its own as a complement to medical care. Learn more at sacredstream.org.
Which one do I need?
You don't need to know ahead of time. On our connection call, we'll talk about what's bringing you to the work, and I'll recommend where to begin. Subsequent sessions will draw on various processes, as needed.
What happens on the connection call?
It's a no-cost conversation of about 15 minutes to hear where you are and explore how this path might meet you. I'll recommend where to start, and together we'll carve a path forward.
How many sessions will I need?
Every path is different. Some clients work with me for focused periods of time, and others consistently over years. A standalone session is always available and is something we can discuss, though this work tends to unfold over time.
What if nothing happens? Can I be hypnotized?
Yes. The altered state we work in is natural. You pass through it every day, as you drift toward sleep or lose yourself on a long drive. Experiences come through in different ways: images, sensations, feelings, or a quiet knowing, and none is more "right" than another. Like any capacity, it deepens with practice.
Will I be in control?
Yes. You're aware throughout, you'll remember the session, and you can pause or stop at any time.
Do I need to believe in anything?
No. This work is non-dogmatic, and no prior belief system is required. Skeptical but curious is a fine place to start.
Is this therapy?
No. I'm a spiritual counselor and guide, not a licensed therapist or physician. This work is often done alongside traditional therapy and other modalities.
What is your training? Is this work trauma-informed?
I trained with Dr. Isa Gucciardi through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream in Depth Hypnosis, Applied Shamanism, and Integrated Energy Medicine. Sacred Stream training is rigorous and spans years of study and supervised practice, and its practitioners are held to the highest standards of integrity. I practice according to the Codes of Ethics of the Association of Depth Hypnosis Practitioners and the Circle of Shamanic Practitioners. I'm also certified in Trauma-Informed Care, Reiki, and Hatha Yoga, and have studied and trained in Tibetan Buddhism.
Yes, this work is trauma-informed. We work with what's held beneath the story rather than reliving it, and nothing happens without your consent.
I've done plant medicine. Is this similar?
It's a different experience. This work takes place in a natural altered state, without any substances, so the experience stays in your hands. It can also be a meaningful support in preparing for and integrating plant medicine experiences. When someone has done a lot of plant medicine, the inner world can be saturated with those experiences, so we often begin by bringing order to what you've already received before going deeper.
Do you work virtually? Which should I choose?
I work on Zoom or in person in Atlanta. This work translates beautifully in both formats, and the choice largely depends on where you feel most comfortable. If one format would serve you better, I'll recommend it.
How should I prepare?
Find a quiet, private space where you won't be interrupted. Avoid alcohol and recreational substances for 24 hours beforehand. Drink plenty of water and pay attention to your dreams. You'll receive more detailed instructions when you book.
What does it cost?
A Session is $250 for 60 minutes. A Season is $2,500 for 10 sessions over 13 weeks.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged in full. No outcomes are guaranteed, and sessions are non-refundable.
